From Friday October 21st through Saturday October 22nd, Eastern and Central Massachusetts saw record amounts of rain over the weekend.
The torrential downpour caused severe flooding in parts of Worcester and caused the National Weather Service to issue severe weather warnings via SMS around 10 PM to the general public throughout the greater Boston area. According to the Boston Globe, I-290 in Worcester was reduced to a single lane, while parts of I-495 and I-90 saw traffic coming to a near standstill. Nearly 4 inches of rain fell in some parts of Central Mass, leaving city officials to cope with how to deal with the water drainage process.
Watch out for mold problems
Residents should be hyper aware of the condition of their homes over the next week. Homeowners should be closely monitoring both their basement and attic for potential mold problems. The Boston area is notorious for having water drainage issues, which means homeowner basements can be in danger of flooding if they aren’t properly waterproofed. Standing water that isn’t addressed within 48 hours will eventually lead to mold problems.
