Always use as directed and it’s always a good idea to create a watered-down solution — the results will still be the same. Ammonia should also be handled with care as it is also very toxic.
Products such as borax, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are safe to use and effective; they don’t release any noxious fumes either. It’s recommended that you use a water-based solution with a ratio of one cup per gallon of water used.
More organic and environmentally friendly options to kill mold also include tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract. Although both are quite expensive and may be difficult to find at a local store, these natural cleaning products only require a small concentration to kill mold and it’s spores.
